Gair Law Group Wins Trial for Henning-Carey Proprietary Trading

On June 9, 2015, after a week-long jury trial in the Circuit Court of Cook County, GLG clients Henning-Carey Proprietary Trading and its principals Charlie Carey and Joe Niciforo obtained a verdict in their favor on claims brought by a former trader associated with the firm. The verdict represented a complete victory for Henning-Carey and ended five years of contentious litigation in which the plaintiff sought millions of dollars in damages. The jury soundly rejected the plaintiff’s claims and exonerated Henning-Carey of any wrongdoing. GLG was retained to try the case shortly before trial, and the trial team was led by partners Chris Gair and Jeff Eberhard. “From the first time we met them, we had full confidence in their dedication, abilities, and approach. They brought a fresh new perspective and a focused strategy which produced successful results,” said the client after trial. “Their skills at cross-examination were masterful – they annihilated every one of plaintiff’s witness with surgical precision.”

The case involved technical trading issues that needed to be presented in an understandable manner. “We were very impressed with the Gair Law Group’s ability to understand complex trading issues in a short timeframe and communicate them effectively to a jury of lay people,” said Henning-Carey. “Chris commanded the courtroom from the start, gaining the respect of the judge and the trust of the jury from the outset. Jeff showed the unique ability to understand and anticipate the plaintiff’s case so that we always remained several steps ahead of our opponent.”

“Gair Law Group not only won the case for us, they also protected our integrity during the process.”
